The D.O.G Dedicated Online Guardians.

An early intervention online safety and digital resilience programme for KS1.

Created for children as young as six, the programme uses engaging stories, relatable characters and practical activities to help children understand the digital world in a safe, age-appropriate way. It supports schools, families and communities to introduce important online safety messages early, before problems become harder to manage.

Through a unique collection of children’s books and supporting resources, D.O.G. helps children explore key themes such as misinformation, safe sharing, privacy, screen time, online gaming and knowing when to ask a trusted adult for help.

Created by Samantha Meghawry and Steve Shepherd, the programme combines current online safety guidance with a strong focus on emotional resilience, confidence and communication. Children are not simply taught what to avoid online; they are helped to build the language, awareness and confidence to pause, think, check and make safer choices.

Technology will continue to change, but the core skills children need to navigate the online world safely will remain essential. D.O.G. has been designed to stay relevant, practical and meaningful for years to come, supporting children at home, in school and beyond.

Let me tell you a story…

Meet Pixel, a lovable St. Bernard puppy with a magical secret — he’s a Dedicated Online Guardian (D.O.G.) in training.

In this exciting children’s book series, Pixel meets Fizz, a bright six-year-old girl who has just received her very first tablet. His mission? To keep her safe as she begins her journey online.

But can he do it?

Each story in the D.O.G. series explores a different aspect of online safety and digital resilience, showing how Fizz and Pixel, with the help of Mum, Dad and her best friend Seth, overcome common challenges children face in the digital world.

Together, they tackle issues such as misinformation, cyberbullying, oversharing, online gaming, and too much screen time — all while Pixel works hard to become a fully fledged Dedicated Online Guardian.

Through every adventure, Pixel helps Fizz build the confidence to make smart choices online — turning tricky situations into opportunities to learn and grow.

The D.O.G. series blends lively storytelling with practical, age-appropriate activities, making each book a conversation starter for families and classrooms. With colourful digital illustrations and heart-warming friendships, these stories help children (and the grown-ups who care for them) create healthy digital habits that last well beyond the final page.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such an important topic in our modern world - I will be recommending this book to other parents. This is a story which allows children to understand the implications of social media in a way they will be able to understand and relate to. It is a challenging topic to cover in a short book, but has been very well done. Lovely, bright, engaging illustrations too. I will be reading this with my own children but will also suggest it as a resource for parents in my professional life as a paediatrician.
